Welcome to My World

I’m Victor Schmitt, and I’m in the process of publishing “Jack in the Box,” a memoir that includes a lot of advice based on a lifetime of introspection. Throughout the book, I ask a lot of questions and ask you to consider them as well, culminating in the essential question we all should be asking about our lives, “Does this work for me?”

Writing the story of my life has been both rewarding and cathartic. I’ve learned a lot about the collaborative process of putting a book together, all while re-examining the trauma of my youth and my struggles to overcome the shaky foundations of my early life. Along the way, I put on paper more than 130,000 words about topics that relate to my family, my career, my travels, my experiences, and other subjects that are close to my heart. Needless to say, my very determined editor helped me shape the final –tighter – version of the book, reminding me that the tens of thousands of words that didn’t make the cut can always be part of other works.

So, I’ve decided to share some of those words here, in blog form. Most of the ideas for topics came from ultimately unused sections and chapters from the book. But I feel very strongly about the issues, and I want to discuss them with my readers.

From time to time, I’ll be posting those thoughts through this blog. Some will be directly related to parts of “Jack in the Box,” while others are issues causing me to stop and think more deeply about how I can react to or are directly affected by them. I hope you’ll do the same by sharing your comments, both here and on my social media.
